What a hygiene visit looks like here
Your visit starts with a thorough review of your medical history and any changes since we last saw you. We will check your blood pressure, take any X-rays that are due, and screen for oral cancer — a quick step that catches problems early, especially for sun-exposed patients spending summers on the water.
Your hygienist will then do the actual cleaning: gentle removal of plaque and tartar above and just below the gum line, polish, and floss. If you have areas of concern — sensitivity, a tooth that has been bothering you, a crown that feels different — say so. We would rather hear it before the exam than after.
Dr. Willis then does a comprehensive exam. He looks at every tooth, your existing dental work, your gum health, your bite, and the soft tissues of your mouth. If something needs attention, you will see it on the screen and we will explain your options without pressure.
How often should you come in?
For most adults, every six months is right. For patients with periodontal disease, a history of gum recession, dry mouth from medication, or other risk factors, we may recommend a three- or four-month interval. We will tell you what we see and why — never schedule extra visits for the sake of the schedule.
Children should typically have their first dental visit by their first birthday or within six months of their first tooth. We keep early visits short, friendly, and built around getting your child comfortable in the chair.
Home care that actually works
We will give you specific, honest guidance about your brushing, flossing, water-flosser use, and toothpaste choices. If you are using something that is not serving you — or skipping something that would help — we will tell you, plainly. We do not sell elaborate at-home regimens. We sell results.
If you have not had a cleaning in a long time, that is okay. You will not be lectured. Call us and we will get you in.
