Veneers, bonding, whitening — cosmetic work is more accessible than ever. Here are the questions worth asking before you choose where to have it done.
Cosmetic work — veneers, bonding, whitening — is more accessible than ever. It's also one of the most subjective areas of dentistry. Two practices can do the same procedure on paper and produce very different results.
Here are the questions worth asking before you choose where to have it done.
Can you see real before-and-afters from this dentist? Not stock images. Not other dentists' work. Real cases the dentist personally completed. A trustworthy cosmetic practice will have them ready.
How conservative is the approach? The best cosmetic dentistry takes off as little tooth structure as possible. If the conversation starts with shaving down your front teeth before anyone has talked about your goals, slow down.
Will the dentist do a wax-up or digital preview first? Before any irreversible work, you should see a model or digital simulation of the proposed result. This is the standard of care for serious cosmetic work.
What's the long-term plan? Veneers and bondings don't last forever. A good cosmetic dentist will tell you, honestly, what your case will look like in 10 or 15 years and what maintenance to expect.
Is the practice able to handle the rest of your dental care too? A cosmetic case is rarely isolated. Healthy gums, a stable bite, and a clean foundation all matter. A practice that does only cosmetic work and refers everything else out is fine, but a full-service practice can keep the whole picture in view.
Do you feel comfortable saying no? This may be the most important one. The best cosmetic outcomes come from patients who feel safe pushing back, asking for changes, and saying "let me think about it." A practice that respects that pace is the right practice.
At Westlake, cosmetic work is the lead category of what we do. It's a privilege to help people feel more confident in their own smile — and we take it seriously. Whenever you're ready, a conversation costs nothing.
