The fewer-referrals philosophy
When you live an hour from a metropolitan area, every referral becomes a logistics project — finding the specialist, taking additional time off, repeating your history to a new front desk, and coordinating records between two offices. Dr. James Willis, DDS built the Willis Dentistry network specifically to reduce that burden on patients. At Westlake, that translates into a wider in-house service menu than you would expect from a general dental practice.
What we handle ourselves
Implant dentistry
Surgical implant placement and the final crown or bridge — both done in our Westlake office. Most general dentists refer out the surgical phase. We do not.
Non-surgical root canal therapy
We perform our own root canals on most teeth using modern rotary instrumentation, magnification, and digital imaging. You stay with the team you know.
Tooth extractions, including surgical
From simple extractions to surgical removals — gently and on your own schedule, not a specialist’s.
Cosmetic dentistry
Veneers, whitening, bonding, and full smile design — important services for an appearance-conscious lake-community.
Prosthodontics
Full and partial dentures, denture relines, crown and bridge work — designed, fit, adjusted, and maintained in-house.
Invisalign
Clear-aligner orthodontics for the adult and teen patients who are a good fit.
When we do refer out
Complex orthognathic surgery, third-molar removal with full IV sedation in medically complex patients, advanced periodontal surgery, and certain pediatric cases that require specialty sedation — those go to trusted specialists in Roanoke and Lynchburg whom we have worked with for years. When you do need a referral, we coordinate it carefully and follow up afterward.
